“An automated society can keep us locked in the past—doing what we have always done, repeating our consumer behaviors, circling and circling in the same social networks, reviving old conversations, “settled law,” that which we thought we had moved on from in our personal lives, work lives, and in the national conversation. Worse, it also potentially extends the worst of the past into the future. It is our responsibility to make sure what we are automating is actually good for the society.”

Enough of the utter nonsense. Author + moviemaker Julio Vincent Gambuto gives a talk like no other, about all we have lost to the digital economy and all that can be gained, individually and collectively by getting rid of the bullshit, genuinely taking stock, and re-evaluating everywhere we put our time, attention, cash and clicks. Based on his new book, "Please Unsubscribe, Thanks!" which was the Barnes & Noble non-fiction "Pick of the Month" in August, and his viral essay “Prepare for the Ultimate Gaslighting.” Smart. Funny. Heartfelt. Not to be missed.

“Speaking at SXSW was a true honor — to address readers and colleagues in a festival so filled with good will was a real highlight of the book publishing experience. And Austin is fantastic.” — JVG
