Why learn from JVG?
Julio (“Giulio”) Vincent Gambuto is an author and moviemaker whose work blends humor, humanity, and sharp cultural insight to cut through the noise and guide audiences back to what matters most. Harvard-educated (BA, English Literature), USC-trained (MFA, Film), and thoroughly schooled by life, JVG's voice has been shaped by 20+ years in the creative trenches. He offers class participants not just inspiring real talk — but clear, practical tools and skills to help storytellers strengthen their craft. A proudly gay, Italian-American voice from the boroughs of NYC, Julio brings heart, wit, and hands-on expertise to everything he teaches.
“Now is the perfect time to share all the hard-earned lessons — the practical, the tactical, and the soulful — so I can help others strengthen their craft, grow their confidence, and (hopefully) make their creative journeys smoother and more rewarding. Teaching isn’t just about passing on knowledge; it’s about helping others do their best work.” — JVG

“I loved this class. I was so impressed by how Julio could take anyone’s idea and not just run with it, but improve it. He pays close attention to details and is truly invested in making everyone’s project the best it can be. He strikes a rare balance — caring and supportive, yet confident and instructive.”

“I’ve learned so much from Julio about how to actually shape a story. He helped me figure out how to take all the ideas in my head and lay them out in a way that makes sense — and keeps people interested. Now I know how to build something that really takes the audience on a ride, and I don’t feel lost when I sit down to write.”

“After years of struggling with a screenplay idea, I took Julio’s class and was thrilled — he gave me a clear framework and practical roadmap that made an overwhelming process feel manageable. His sharp, passionate guidance helped unlock my story, and I’m excited to keep learning from him.”

“Storytelling is a vital skill in our business, and our company needed a workshop to help our team bring their recommendations to life. Julio’s background in corporate communications and filmmaking made him the perfect fit. We’ve had rave reviews and look forward to a long partnership with him.”

Yes, during the live class discussions or Friday office hours. Be sure to bring your questions and ideas there! In the future, JVG will offer personalized feedback and consulting on writing projects and scripts. For now, he can also recommend some readers and editors who are fantastic.
We’re all adults here. You’ll get prompts and exercises in your takeaway materials. The more time and works and love you put in, the more you’ll get out of it.
These classes focus on craft, not industry access. There is, however, an Entertainment Business 101 class covering the business side. This is the only class in which we encourage active networking with others in the room for business purposes. Otherwise, JVG prefers these types of connections grow organically. We may bring in special guests in the future — but we strongly encourage you to focus on learning and doing the story work first. That's really the best part.
For now, all classes are on Zoom — but live, in-person workshops are definitely coming in the future. Stay tuned.
Nope — office hours are only open to registered class participants. They’re designed as a bonus space to go deeper.
JVG is happy to welcome people of all ages, especially young artists. While we ask that you be 18+ to register, high school students can participate if a parent or teacher registers and gives permission.
It is really important to me to live into the ethos of my book, in as many ways and places as I can. When I wrote Please Unsubscribe, Thanks!, I meant it: clear the clutter, say no to the noise, and make room for what matters. This is me taking my own advice — offering meaningful, human connection through teaching. Plus, I'll never ask you to subscribe and pay monthly for anything, and I limit my emails to my email list to 10 max per year so you can keep your inbox clean. As for Zoom and online payments, we're working on it. There is actually no such thing as public digital cash, which is maddening. See my Renewal Statement if you're interested in understanding this journey and its social and political implications.
You’re welcome to call me any variation of my name. I was born Giulio, raised as Julie and Little Julie (so my mom could differentiate me from my dad, Big Julie), registered in school as Julio, called "Hulio." My high school and college friends call me Jules. My full professional name is Julio Vincent Gambuto, which I shorten to JVG. Ha! No need to remember any of this. "Jew-lee-oh" is fine. My sixth-grade social studies teacher actually calls me "Harry" to avoid all of it.
Yes! Check out the Speaking page for details on bringing JVG to your company, team, or event.
